Balearic Islands jump on the electric micromobility bandwagon with €1 million in subsidies for acquisition

The Balearic Islands government, through the General Directorate of Energy and Climate Change, will open a call this Friday for €1 million to promote electric micromobility in the Balearic Islands and boost the acquisition of electric mobility vehicles such as bicycles or scooters.
Micromobility Balearic

In a statement, the Director General of Energy and Climate Change, Pep Malagrava, explained that in the Balearic Islands, there is a ratio of more than one car per inhabitant, which is one of the highest in the country.

Therefore, «the promotion of shared mobility, along with micromobility, are fundamental pillars for this government, which is aware that transportation is one of the major polluters.»

Hence, they consider the involvement of all sectors necessary to continue with an energy transition in the islands that will lead to better air quality.

This will also have an impact on the health of citizens.

«We encourage citizens to apply for these subsidies and continue promoting electric micromobility in the Balearic Islands,» he said.

Furthermore, Malagrava explained that this grant comes from the sustainable tourism tax framework.

«The use of personal mobility vehicles and electric bicycles instead of cars can significantly contribute to more efficient and sustainable transportation,» he stated.

On the other hand, he added that they expect these vehicles to comply with traffic regulations, have a maximum speed, and be insured.

«As a government, we continue to promote the decarbonization of transportation while further integrating renewable energy sources and providing assistance to various sectors to continue this necessary energy transition to adapt to climate change,» he concluded.
